Celebrating Halfoween with Zombie Carrot Patch

The first time I heard about Halfoween was when my friend Jimmy suggested I create a recipe that would celebrate the fun theme.

He explained it as Halfway through Halloween which some people celebrate it with “Spooky Halloweeness” as Jimmy said and if that already doesn’t sound cool enough, Jimmy celebrates it by creating a mashup between Halloween and Spring.

I had my work cut out for me because if you haven’t seen his comic from last year Jimmy is super creative and I… well sometimes lack in that department.

I kept thinking of a character or thing from Halloween that I can relate with and Easter character or thing and all I could think of was eggs. I kept digging deeper to find something that might work, and below is my attempt at creating a Bunny Zombie Infested Carrot Patch.

You will need:

  1. Carrot Cake Mix
  2. 1 Cup Water
  3. 2/3 Cup Vegetable Oil
  4. 3 Eggs
  5. 1 Small Box Peeps
  6. 9 Gummy Carrots (Or any other small carrot shaped candy)
  7. Red Sugar Sprinkles
  8. (Optional) Chocolate Cake for Dirt

You will also need 2 baking dishes and a bowl.

Start by baking the carrot cake and separate into two dishes. The first one will be the actual cake and the second one will be turned into crumbs. Make sure when cooking the actual cake you leave some room at the top for crumbs, carrots and bunnies. Let them cool and proceed to crumb the smaller cake.

If you are using chocolate cake as well, add in the chocolate to make it a dirt like consistency. Crumble enough to cover the op of the square cake.

Start assembly. Poke holes where you want your carrots to go. Initially I poked too many, I say about 9 holes are going to work best. I ended up adding the “dirt” first and then adding the carrots after.

Start deciding how many bunnies are going into your zombie garden, and add some features that will make them extra “zombie”. Assemble the zombie garden to your liking and you are done! Enjoy the carrot cake, it is best enjoyed while watching a scary film… that’s just a suggestion.

Thank you all for coming with me on this creative journey.
